9.5.3.2 Replacing an HDD in RAID1 while the Equipment power is on
To replace an HDD in RAID1 while the Equipment power is on, follow the procedure below.
Note: The procedure below exemplifies how to replace the HDD installed in drive bay 1.
When you replace the HDD installed in drive bay 2, read “drive bay 1” and “HDD1 status
lamp” in the procedure below as “drive bay 2” and “HDD2 status lamp”.
1. Back up the data.
2. Terminate all the running application programs.
3. Double-click the Hardware Status icon in the task tray.

4. In the “Hardware status” window opened, click
OFFLINE
button corresponding to the
replacement target, i.e., drive bay 1. Ensure that the subject HDD icon in the window
shows “OFFLINE”. Also ensure that the HDD1 status lamp turns on. (In some cases
you must wait several tens of seconds.)
Note: To perform operation of this step under Windows® 7, administrator’s access
privilege is required. For this purpose, log on to the local computer as a member of the
Administrators group and then click
OFFLINE
button in the “Hardware status” window.
If the User Account Control dialog opens after responding to the confirmation dialog,
click
Yes
button to continue.
5. After you ensure the HDD1 status lamp lit, replace the HDD in drive bay 1 according to
Step 4 and on in Subsection 9.4.2 “Recovering from HDD failure in one side”.
