10.7 Backing Up under the Offline Situation
The Equipment processes mirroring with the software RAID1 device driver running on the
OS. If you perform backup-related work (creating or restoring from backup data) under the
offline situation without running the OS, you need to consider the configuration of the
software RAID1 because you can independently access each HDD used by the software
RAID1.
This section explains the procedure and what you need to know when you create or restore
from backup data under the offline situation.
The offline situation mentioned here means, for example, an environment started up by
Windows® 7 Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) or the startup disk of
commercially available backup software.
<Procedure of creating backup data>
1. Follow the recommended procedure of your backup software to create backup data.
2. Rebuild RAID1 using the HDD used as the source of backup data as a copy source. (For
information about rebuilding RAID1, see Subsection 10.6.4, “Rebuild function of
RAID1”.)
< NOTE >
• When you create backup data for the system operating in fall-back mode, it is possible
that you specify the already disconnected HDD for the source of backup data by mistake.
Make sure that the HDD used as the source of backup data is in the normal state
(ONLINE). (For information about how to check the status of an HDD, see Subsection
10.6.3, “Status display function for RAID1”.)
• Depending on the backup software you use, the backup software may write something to
an HDD while creating backup data. Because of this, do not forget to rebuild RAID1
after you created backup data so that both HDDs in the drive bay 1 and 2 have the same
data.
<Procedure of restoring from backup data>
1. Mount an HDD on both the drive bay 1 and 2.
2. Perform backup restoration preparation. (For information about backup restoration
preparation,
see Subsection 10.6.6, “Backup restoration preparation function”.)
3. Follow the recommended procedure of your backup software to copy the preserved
backup data to the HDD in the drive bay 1 for restoration.
4. Rebuild RAID1. (For information about rebuilding RAID1, see Subsection 10.6.4,
“Rebuild function of RAID1”.)
