INSPECTION PROCEDURE FOR WHEN THE DEF MIXED INTO THE ENGINE
COOLANT

Check the color of the DEF in the tank. (check if the fluid is trans-
parent or not.)

Remove the DEF sensor (DEF pick-up unit) from the DEF tank.
Prepare a large container and connect the coolant and DEF pipes
to the DEF sensor for checking the leakage of coolant.
2.
Start the engine to make the coolant circulate after turning on
(=open) the coolant shutoff valve by using HINO DX
Ⅱ
activation
test, and check if coolant is leaking from the DEF sensor coolant
pipe.
<Coolant shutoff valve activation procedure>
(1) Set the starter switch to the "Lock" position and connect the
vehicle to HINO DX
Ⅱ

(2) Set the starter switch to "ON" position and select [DCU] on
HINO DX
Ⅱ
.
(3) Select [Data monitor and Active test]
(4) Select [Coolant shutoff valve] from the [Active test Setting].
(5) Select "ON" from the pull-down menu and click "Select".
(6) Click "Start" and then "OK".

Inspect for coolant leakage from the coolant pipe
Select "ON" from the pull-down menu and click "Select"
Coolant shutoff valve will be "ON" when OK is selected.

Did you discover a coolant leak?
Replace the DEF sensor.
After replacement, drain and flush all pas-
sages of coolant and DEF, and refill with the
proper coolant and DEF.
Replace the DEF pump.
After replacement, drain and flush all pas-
sages of coolant and DEF, and refill with the
proper coolant and DEF.
