The EROS mask has a “comfort control” fea-
ture that allows tension on the harness to be
adjusted by adding or reducing the amount of
pressure in the harness. This feature has a
two-position NORM-COMF toggle and a roller
that can be adjusted between MIN and MAX.
The mask should be stored with the NORM-
COMF toggle in the NORM (down) position.
If the mask is donned in a non-emergency con-
dition, the harness tension can be adjusted by
placing the toggle to the COMF (up) position
and rotating the roller to the MAX position.
Then, depress the inflation control tab (Figure
17-9) to inflate the harness until a comfortable
mask tension is achieved. The comfort feature
is manually controlled and in an emergency,
the toggle must be switched to the NORM po-
sition to deflate the harness to full tension.
Crew Mask Operation
The crew should be able to don the oxygen
mask within 5 seconds.
To use the oxygen mask:
1. Remove hats and headsets.
2. Grasp the mask with the palm of the
hand against the regulator.
3. Pull the assembly from its stowage con-
tainer.
4. Place the thumb and middle fingers on
the levers located on the levers located
on opposite sides of the regulator.
5. Depress and hold the red lever firmly to
inflate the harness assembly.
6. Place the harness assembly over the-
head (Figure 17-10).
7. Place the face seal over the nose and
mouth.
8. Release the red lever. The harness as-
sembly will deflate and assume a safe,
secure and tight position on the head
and face.
To prevent injury to crew members
and passengers from a potential
flash fire, all smoking material must
be extinguished prior to the use of
oxygen.
When stowed, the harness must not be tucked
inside of the face cone or the harness may not
inflate for donning. The crew masks should be
stowed with 100% oxygen selected on the reg-
ulator so they are ready to use in the event of
smoke or fumes in the airplane.
