heat/fire condition exists. The voice message
can also be muted with the mute switch in the
right thrust lever.
ENGINE FIRE
EXTINGUISHING
The AFM procedure for an engine fire is to first
retard the thrust lever to IDLE. After pausing
at idle to see if the fire indication extinguishes,
then go to CUT-OFF and lift the guard and de-
press the FIRE PUSH button (Figure 8-3).
Depressing the FIRE PUSH switch performs
the following (Figure 8-4):
• Closes the engine main fuel shutoff valve
(FWSOV).
• Closes the hydraulic shutoff valve.
• Closes bleed air valve from the engine.
• Disconnects the generator and alterna-
tor.
• Disables on-side WSHLD heat system.
• Prevents electrical power from being
applied to the thrust reverser isolation
valve, which prevents the flow of hy-
draulic fluid to that engine reverser.
• Arms the engine fire extinguisher sys-
tem (ARMED lights illuminate).
When the FIRE PUSH button is depressed the
FIRE PUSH button stops flashing and is illu-
minated steady, and “CLOSED” illuminates in
the upper half of the switch (Figure 8-3). A
white “L or R FWSOV CLSD” is also posted
on the CAS. Electrical power to the FWSOV
valves and the fire extinguishing system is
from the emergency hot busses and airplane
power does not have to be on to perform the
engine fire procedure.
When the FIRE PUSH button is depressed,
arming of the extinguisher system is evidenced

Extinguisher #1 and #2 ARMED lights (Figure
8-3). The ARMED light/switches are guarded
with clear plastic covers to prevent inadver-
tent activation. Depressing either ARMED
pushbutton causes the contents of that extin-
guisher bottle (#1 or #2) to be routed to the af-
fected engine (Figure 8-4). The ARMED
caption will then extinguish indicating the
squib has been fired. Should indication of an
overheat/fire condition persist (FIRE light on
EICAS and FIRE PUSH button still illumi-
nated), the second extinguisher bottle should
be discharged by depressing the remaining il-
luminated ARMED light/switch. Refer to the
AFM engine fire procedure.
