T038 - Drive TapeAlert 9 – Write Protected
Description
GUI Description:
The drive was requested to write to a write-protected tape
cartridge.
Explanation:
System determines that a write was attempted on a write
protected tape cartridge.
Detection Scenarios
Tape drive issues a TapeAlert 9.
Root Causes
Write protect feature on tape cartridge is protecting the tape cartridge, but the
user is trying to write to it.

Steps
1 Perform
DR014 - Resolve Write-Protected Tape Cartridge
on page 373.
2 Use the
Details
option in the RAS ticket to identify which tape drive reported
the RAS ticket. If possible, check the front of the tape drive for error
indications. Clear the RAS ticket.
3 Isolate the media which was used in the tape drive and caused the error.
Inspect the media and ensure that the write protect tab is not engaged. If tab
is not engaged, try the operation with another piece of known good media.
