4. Slide the link rod, then the spacer, onto the flywheel end of the crankshaft.
PISTON AND CONNECTING ROD INSTALLATION
1. Reassemble the piston and the connecting rod into a unit, if disassembled.
1.1. Align the arrow mark (1) on the piston head toward the words MADE IN JAPAN (2) on the con-
necting rod. Insert the piston pin through the piston holes and the connecting rod. Install the two
retaining rings to hold the pin in place. The gap in the retaining rings should be facing towards the
crankshaft. Make sure the retaining rings are seated in their grooves. Make sure the connecting
rod moves freely (Figure 13-97, Page 13-44).
• ALWAYS USE A PRESS WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING THE SPUR GEAR AND HELICAL
GEAR ON THE CRANKSHAFT.
• IF THE SPUR GEAR WAS WARPED WHILE BEING REMOVED, INSTALL A NEW ONE.
• MAKE SURE THE CHAMFERED INSIDE DIAMETERS OF THE SPUR GEAR AND HELICAL
GEAR ARE ORIENTED DOWNWARD ON THE CRANKSHAFT AS SHOWN (FIGURE 13-95,
PAGE 13-43).
• MAKE SURE THE LINK RODS ROTATE SMOOTHLY AFTER THE GEARS ARE PRESSED ON.
