Counterbalance Guide Shaft Inspection
1. Clean the shaft surface and inspect it for wear or damage.
2. With an outside micrometer, measure the outside diameter of the guide shaft surface (Figure 13-83,
Page 13-38).
3. If the outside diameter is smaller than 1.0199 inches (25.907 mm), or the shaft show signs of wear or
damage, replace the guide shaft.
4. Check the O-Ring seal to make sure the O-Ring is not damaged. Replace if necessary.
Crankshaft Inspection
1. Clean and inspect the journals for scoring. Inspect the crankshaft gear for cracks, scoring or broken
teeth. Replace parts if necessary.
2. Using a micrometer, measure both main journals (PTO side and flywheel side) at several points along
their lengths (Figure 13-84, Page 13-38).
2.1. If either journal diameter is less than 1.1783 inches (29.929 mm), replace the crankshaft.
3. Using a micrometer, measure connecting rod journal at several points along its length (Figure 13-85,
Page 13-38).
3.1. If the journal diameter is less than 1.3954 inches (35.443 mm), replace the crankshaft.
