Camshaft Installation
1. Installation is the reverse of removal. See Page 13-26.
2. Apply a light film of engine oil to the camshaft journals and cam lobes.
3. Align the timing marks (3) (Figure 13-102, Page 13-46).
CRANKCASE COVER INSTALLATION
• WHEN INSTALLING THE CAMSHAFT, MAKE SURE THAT THE TANG (1) ON THE OIL PUMP
ROTOR SEATS IN THE SLOT (2) IN END OF THE CAMSHAFT (FIGURE 13-103, PAGE 13-46). IF
THE OIL PUMP TANG IS NOT SEATED IN THE SLOT IN THE CAMSHAFT, SERIOUS ENGINE
DAMAGE WILL RESULT.

• IF THE OUTSIDE EDGES OF THE CAMSHAFT AND CRANKSHAFT GEARS ARE NOT FLUSH,
AND THE CRANKCASE COVER WILL NOT EASILY MAKE FULL CONTACT WITH THE
CRANKCASE, MAKE SURE THE TANG ON THE OIL PUMP ROTOR IS SEATED IN THE
CAMSHAFT SLOT.
• BEFORE ASSEMBLY, MAKE SURE PARTS ARE CLEAN.
• DO NOT REUSE THE GASKET. INSTALL A NEW ONE.
• INSTALL AND TIGHTEN CRANKCASE COVER BOLTS AS INSTRUCTED. FAILURE TO DO SO
