CHAPTER 28: Connect as a Tethered Modem

If you have a tethering or BlackBerry as a modem service plan with your carrier, you can

continue with the setup and choose Network Preferences… as shown in Figure 28-7.

NOTE:

Most, but not all, carriers charge extra for using your BlackBerry as a modem for your

Mac to connect to the Internet. Contact your carrier for pricing.

TIP:

Many carriers will allow you to turn on and off this extra service. Say you were taking a

trip and needed to use the modem feature for three weeks. Your carrier may allow you to do

Setting Network Preferences

This section explains how to configure your network preferences:

NOTE:

Only proceed with these steps if have all the necessary carrier setup strings provided by

your wireless carrier.

1.

Click Default next to the Configuration field, and select New
Connection. Type a connection name; in Figure 28-8, we used
BlackBerry 8900, but you might want to type BlackBerry 9700 or Bold
9700.

Fill in your phone number, account name, and password in the
appropriate boxes to begin the configuration process.
