The sleep time will be displayed in the AVR
Lower Display Line [square 34]
while Sleep Time is
being set.
The front-panel display will dim to half brightness when the Sleep function is programmed. To
cancel the Sleep function, press and hold the
Sleep Button [oval 33]
until the information display
returns to normal brightness; and the words
SLEEP OFF
appear in the AVR
Lower Display Line
[square 34]
. When the programmed sleep time has elapsed, the unit will turn off.
When you will be away from home for an extended period of time, it is always a good idea to turn
the unit off with the front-panel
Main Power Switch [square 1]
.
NOTE: All preset memories are lost if the unit is left turned off by using the
Main Power Switch
[square 1]
for more than four weeks.
Source Selection
• To select a source, press any of the
Input Selector Buttons [oval 4]
on the remote.
• The input source may also be changed by pressing the AVR front-panel
Input Source Selector
Button [square 15]
. Each press of the button will move the input selection through the list of
available inputs.
• When a new input is selected, the AVR will automatically switch to the audio and video
configurations as set in Source Setup.
• The front-panel
Game/Cam Inputs [squares 19, 20, 22, 23] , Optical Digital 3 Input [square
13]
or the
Coaxial Digital 3 Input [square 16]
may be used to connect a device such as a
video game or camcorder to your home entertainment system on a temporary basis.
• As the input source is changed, the new input name will appear momentarily as an on-screen
display in the lower third of the video display. The input name will also appear in the AVR
Upper Display Line [square 33]
.
• When an audio source is selected, the associated video inputs are routed to the
Composite
[circles 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7], S-Video [circles 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7]
and
Component Monitor Video
Outputs [circles 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15]
. Audio and Video Source signals cannot be mixed other
than their default connections. If the
HDMI output [circle 18]
is selected in setup, the
Component Video Monitor Outputs [circle 15]
will be shut off.
NOTE: While switching sources you will see the video signal occasionally switch to black for a
second or two and hear a slight clicking noise. Both of these are normal and do not indicate any
problem with either the AVR21EN or your video display. When your screen goes black you are
seeing the video equivalent of an audio mute, which is put into place by the video processing
system while the individual parameters for each input are retrieved from the memory and applied
to the system. The clicking noise is due to the use of relays in the component video switcher to
assure maximum video quality and to reduce the possibility of video crosstalk.
6-Channel/8-Channel Direct Input
• There are four input choices available for use with sources such as a DVD-Audio or SACD
player that are connected to the 8-Channel Direct Inputs. Select the appropriate input for your
system and source equipment:
■
The
6 CH DIRECT
input should be used when the BSR (7.1) and BSL (7.1) inputs are NOT in
use and the source device has its own internal bass management system. This input passes
the input from the source directly through to the volume control without any analog to digital
