9.7 Replacement of PLC Battery
W hen an alarm message is displayed stating that PLC battery voltage is low, replace the
batteiy right away. (For details, refer to the appendix manufacturer manual.)
1. Replacement Procedure for Servo Pack .and Absolute ^Figure Encoder (YASKAWA)
- The effective term (maximum lifetime) o f the battery is two years, regardless o f the
time o f eneigization/non-energization to the CPU unit. However, when purchasing this
machine, the effective term will be shorter due to the time spent at our corporation.
- When the alarm message “A 8 10: Encoder Backup Alarm” is displayed at the panel
indicator on the front o f the servo pack, the batteiy voltage is completely out and the
positioning data in the memory is lost. Replace with a new battery when the alarm
message “A830: Encoder Battery Alarm” is displayed.
(1) Turn OFF the power source. When it is already OFF, turn ON once and wait for
five minutes or so to apply the current. After charging the capacitor that keeps
the data to substitute for the battery during replacement, turn OFF the power
source.
(2) Disconnect the encoder cable and open the battery unit.
(3) Disconnect the batteiy connector from inside the battery unit, pull out the batteiy,
and replace with a new one.
Install the new battery within five minutes o f turning OFF the power source.
If the condition without a battery continues for more thSn five minutes, there is a
risk that data kept by the capacitor may be lost. , •?
(4) Close the battery unit and connect the encoder cable.”" ;

(5) Turn ON the power source and reset the alarm'status. -
A CAUTION
To avoid bodily injury and/or machine malfunction from static
electricity generated by touching precision components and/or
connectors in the units, workers should discharge body static
electricity before starting»the replacement procedures.
