Laser Scanners
5
1. Safety precautions
·
Use supply voltage and interfaces indicated in the scanner specifications.
·
In connection/disconnection of cables, the scanner power must be switched off.
·
Do not use scanners in locations close to powerful light sources.
·
To obtain stable results, wait about 20 minutes after scanner activation to achieve
uniform scanner warm-up.
·
Scanners must be grounded.
2. CE сompliance
Laser scanners have been developed for use in industry and meet the requirements
of the following Directives:
·
EU directive 2014/30/EU. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
·
EU directive 2011/65/EU, “RoHS“ category 9.
3. Laser safety
Scanners belong to 2M laser safety class according to IEC/EN 60825-1:2014.
Scanners make use of an c.w. 660 nm or 405 nm or 450 nm or 808 nm wavelength
semiconductor laser. Maximum output power is 10 mW. The following warning label is
placed on the scanner housing:
The following safety measures should be taken while operating the scanners:
·
Do not target laser beam to humans.
·
Do not disassemble the scanner.
·
Avoid staring into the laser beam.
4. General information
Laser scanners are designed for non-contact measuring and checking of surface
profile, position, displacement, dimensions, sorting and sensing of technological objects,
3D models construction.
5. Structure and operating principle
Operation of the scanners is based on the principle of optical triangulation (see
Figure below).
Radiation of a semiconductor laser is formed by a lens in a line and projected to an
object. Radiation scattered from the object is collected by the lens and directed to a two-
dimensional CMOS image sensor. The image of object outline thus formed is analyzed by a
FPGA and signal processor, which calculates the distance to the object (Z-coordinate) for
each point of the set along the laser line on the object (X-coordinate). Scanners are
characterized by the following parameters:
·
smrZ - the beginning of the range for the Z-coordinate,
·
MR - the measuring range for the Z-coordinate,
·
Xsmr - the measuring range for the X-coordinate at the beginning of Z,
·
Xemr - the measuring range for the X-coordinate at the end of Z.
