Migrating Symposium Web Center Portal
Introduction
This section provides background information about the Symposium Web
Center Portal Migration Utility as well as the procedures for migrating data from
your Symposium Web Center Portal 3.0 database to your Symposium Web
Center Portal Release 4.0 database.
Before you start the migration process, ensure you complete the items in the pre-
migration checklist. For more information, refer to “Pre-migration checklist” on
page 538.
You can migrate your Symposium Web Center Portal system onto your existing
hardware or onto new hardware. You can migrate your database and attachments
using either the one- or two-step migration procedure:

Use the one-step procedure if you are migrating your Symposium Web
Center Portal Release 3.0 data onto a new system.

Use the two-step procedure if you plan to reuse your existing hardware. If
you choose the two-step method, you must store the Symposium Web
Center Portal Release 3.0 data in an intermediate file until the Symposium
Web Center Portal Release 4.0 software is installed.
Note: The database size on the new hardware must be the same as or larger than
the existing database.
Migration recommendations
Nortel Networks recommends that you clean up the Symposium Web Center
Portal Release 3.0 database before you start the migration process to ensure that
only relevant data is migrated. To do so you must perform the following tasks:

Limit the number of pending transactions remaining in the Symposium
Web Center Portal Release 3.0 system by completing and closing these
transactions. Any pending transactions migrated to the Release 4.0 system
must be reassigned to agents by supervisors.
