Configuring e-mail for Symposium Web Center Portal Standard 2.0
Agents can initiate transactions and e-mails without having an originating
e-mail. As such, you need to determine how to set the From address on these
e-mails. In the event that an agent chooses an address from the drop-down list,
that address is used. However, if the agent uses the From address as the Original
Delivery Address, then he or she must select a From address from the drop-down
list to be used for agent initiated e-mails.
SMTP Authentication while using aliases
If you are using aliases to prevent third-party relay through your e-mail server,
you must enable SMTP Authentication on that e-mail server. When adding that
SMTP server to the Symposium Web Center Portal Administrator, you must
select the SMTP Authentication option. In doing so, any inboxes that are set up
on that e-mail server have the SMTP Authentication enabled. If there is an
alternate SMTP login, it must be specified on the Inbox tab.
In the event that aliases are used, problems may occur. Consider the following
scenario:
An e-mail arrives from customer@work.com to info@letronix.com inquiring
about a problem. The e-mail is forwarded to letronix@emailoutsourcing.com.
At the e-mail outsourcing site, the inbox letronix is polled by Symposium Web
Center Portal. Letronix wants to respond with the original address as the From
address (the e-mail is returned to customer@work.com from info@letronix.com
rather than from letronix@emailoutsourcing.com). In addition, SMTP
Authentication is being used.
If SMTP authentication is enabled, you must authenticate yourself to the server
with the correct user name and password before the e-mail is sent. To do so you
must perform the following tasks:
1. Set up a mailbox called “info” with the domain “letronix.com,” and provide
the logon credentials.
2. As this mailbox does not really exist on the “emailoutsourcing” site, you
can disable the inbox—clear the Enabled checkbox to prevent it from being
polled (you just need the logon credentials).
3. When an e-mail arrives from that address, you use the corresponding SMTP
authentication credentials.
