Installing and configuring the External Web server

Open your Internet browser and browse to http://localhost. 

Result: 

The default Apache home page appears.

Stop the Apache Web Server service. Continue with the next procedure to 
Install Apache Tomcat. You will start the Apache service up again after you 
install Tomcat and JK2.

Installing Apache Tomcat

Apache Tomcat is a servlet engine that is used to deploy the Sample Customer 
Interface and Web Communications applications. 

Note: 

Symposium Web Center Portal also supports the use of JRun as a servlet 

engine to deploy the Sample Customer Interface and Web Communications 
components. For more information about installing, configuring, and deploying 
the Sample Customer Interface and Web Communications components with 
JRun, refer to Appendix F, “Installing the External Web Server components with 
JRun and IIS.”

To install Apache Tomcat

Note: 

If you are installing a later version of Tomcat than the one mentioned in 

the procedure below, refer to the Tomcat web site for more information before 
you install Tomcat on your computer.

Download the latest version of the Tomcat 4.1.x binary (for example, 
jakarta-tomcat-4.1.24.exe) from 

 

http://www.apache.org/dist/jakarta/tomcat-4/.

Run the executable file. 

Result: 

The Apache Tomcat 4.1.x Setup window appears.
