A.4 Summary of the Safety Standards for Earth
Continuity Testing
• The tables below provides a summary of safety standards. Before performing
actual testing, check the latest version of the applicable safety standard.
IEC 60065
Audio, Video, and similar electronic apparatus - Safety requirements
Type test: Test certifying conformity to the standard
Routine test: 100% test conducted in the production process
Class-I devices: Devices or equipment with primary insulation
Devices or equipment that prevent electric shock by connecting parts with poten-
tially dangerous voltages to the protective conductor terminals of indoor wiring in
the event of breakage of primary insulation
Protective conductor terminal: Protective bonding conductor
Test points: Between A and B

Remarks • Test voltage must be 12 V or less.
• Calculate a resistance value from

• Use a power supply with a no-load voltage of 12 V or less.
• Exercise care so that test results are not affected by the contact resistance
between a tester's probe and the metal part being tested.
