Setting the Administrator Password Jumper
The system board and the system-board jumper settings for your
model appear on a label inside your server. You will see the label
when you remove the side cover.
The administrator password jumper has two positions:
In position 1 (called the locked state), an administrator password
cannot be set, changed, or removed.
In position 0 (called the change state), an administrator password
can be set, changed, or removed.
Jumper positions are indicated by the 0 or 1 symbol printed on the
system board next to the jumper with the jumper location identifier
J15.
The default setting for this jumper is position 1, the locked state.
Before you begin, be sure you have:
Read the information about the administrator password (also
known as the privileged-access or supervisor password) in
“Using the System Diskettes” on page 164.
Read “Electrical Safety” on page 179 and “Handling
Static-Sensitive Devices” on page 180.
Removed the server side cover (see “Preparing to Install
Options” on page 181).
Attention:
You cannot erase or override a forgotten administrator
password. If you forget the administrator password, you must
replace the system board.
1. Locate the 3-pin administrator password jumper. The jumper
connector is labeled J15. (The jumper covers two of three pins
on a pin block and might be positioned to the left or to the
right.)
