Installing Internal Drives
Refer to the documentation that comes with the adapter
for the channel identification of the internal and external
connectors.
You can install up to three half-high drives or six
slim-high drives each of banks C, D, and E.
Banks C and D or D and E can be daisy chained or
linked together into a single SCSI-2 bus using the “daisy
chain option” cable. However, the SCSI ID jumper (J12)
on one backplane must be set to HI. (See the table under
“Setting Backplane SCSI ID Jumpers (J12)” on page 274.)
After the backplane is completely installed, you do not
have to turn off the server to install hot-swappable drives
in bank E. However, you must turn off the server when
performing the steps that involve installing or removing
adapters, backplanes, cables, and the fan assembly.
To install a drive in bank E:
1. If required for your server, install an additional SCSI-2 adapter
in one of the empty expansion slots (see “Installing Adapters”
on page 197).
If the fan assembly is installed, you must remove it before you
can install the backplane at the rear of bank E.
2. Disconnect the fan assembly cables from the fan bracket.
Attention:
To avoid damage and ensure proper server
operation, handle the fan assembly carefully.
Remove the two screws that hold the fan assembly in place.
Remove the fan assembly. (See steps 1 through 3 on page 241).
