IMPORTANT
5. While slowly raising the overhead hoist,
tap the transmission at the brake disc
shaft until the housings start to separate.

The use of 2 large pry bars may also assist in separating the housings once they have split
far enough apart, but caution should be observed as not to damage the sealing surface of
the housings while using this option.
7. Remove the retaining ring from the output gear. Photo TR-2
The next step requires the removal of the
output shaft gear, steering shaft differential
and drive shaft differential. These (3)
components must be removed together and
may require the assistance from a second
pair of hands.

8. Attach the overhead hoist to the steering
shaft differential. A large size, locking
style gear puller attached to the differen -
tial and then connected to the overhead
hoist works well.

9. While raising the hoist at the steering shaft differential, lift up at the same time on output
shaft gear. The drive shaft differential will also need to be raised at the same time with
a second pair of hands. Some maneuvering of this differential shaft may be required to
free it from the bearing race below. Photo TR-3
10. Remove the ball and spring assemblies from both forward and reverse shift shaft assem -
blies and pull both input shaft pinion and reverse idler assembly from the transmission.

There is also (1) steel ball located in the housing between the forward and reverse shift
shafts.
