Brake Pad Installation ( Mechanical)

1. Rivet the new pads to the caliper using a pop riveting tool capable of drawing them

tightly into place.

When replacing worn or contaminated pads, replace both pads in the brake caliper

assembly even if both pads do not require replacing. Using one new and one old brake

pad in a caliper assembly may provide poor braking performance.

Brake Caliper Installation ( Mechanical)

2. Insert the longer of the bolts into the mechanical brake caliper, as well as the shorter

of the 2 bolts. Slip the compression spring over the longer one.

3. Assemble the brake bracket to the bolts and install the 2

compression spring as in

4. Install 2 bearing balls into the outside half of the brake caliper. Apply a little axle

grease to the cavities that house the balls. Seat the balls with the tap of a hammer and

assemble this half to the other one.

5. Next install the brake cam to the calipers. Apply more grease to the cam where it

comes into contact with the balls.

6. Place a flat washer over the longer of the 2 bolts on the caliper and thread a locking

nut on loosely. Thread a 2

nut on the rear mounting bolt of the caliper finger tight

only.

7. Remove the inside caliper from the bracket and slip the second compression spring

off as well.

1. Perform the servicing procedure,

2. Using a drill and a 1/8” drill bit, remove

the heads of the rivets holding the old

pads to the calipers. Clear the remainder

of the rivets from the holes of the cali

pers. *When clearing the remainder of

the rivets from the holes, be sure that a

suitable sized drill bit is used (5/32” or

smaller). Using a drill bit larger than the

mounting holes in the caliper, will result

in over sizing them,

making them inef

fective in securing the new pads when

reinstalling the rivets
