The next procedure, requires the use of a modified pair of vise grips to hold the

shifting assembly’s balls and springs in place while installing the Input Pinion.

4. Using the modified vise grips, install 4 109-02 Steel Balls and 2 CE-033 Compression

Springs into the two holes machined through the Input Shaft. Place the modified vise

grip’s lower jaw below the two holes of the Input Shaft and drop a Steel Ball into each

hole.

5. Insert the 2 compression springs into the holes on top of the previously installed steel

balls, and place 2 more steel balls on top of these springs.

6. Compress the balls and springs by clamping the vise grips.

The vise grip need only be clamped tight enough to compress the balls and springs within

the Input Shaft, yet loose enough to slide out of position when establishing the Input Pinion

to the shaft.
