Transmission Disassembly
The following instruction is a bare bones procedure illustrating the order and technique
used in removing the main components from the CENTAUR transmission housing. For
complete disassembly of each component, you may refer to the Transmission Assembly
section which details step by step, the assembling of each gear assembly.
IMPORTANT
1. The transmission should be secured in a stand that allows for free walk around access.
Typically, it should be held at one end at the work bench and at the other end by a free
standing structure on the floor. The transmission should be oriented on it’s side with
the hydrostatic pump opening facing up. All oil should be drained from the transmis -
sion.
2. Remove all bolts, washers and locknuts securing the 2 halves of the transmission hous -
ing together.
IMPORTANT
There are (2) bolts threaded into the housing from the bottom up, at the rear of the
transmission and (3) threaded at the front from the bottom up, near the hydrostatic
pump opening.
3. Thread an eyebolt to one of the brake caliper mounting holes and attach an overhead
hoist. (A manually operated hoist works best for better control of up and down move -
ment).
4. Ensure that the transmission shift shafts
are in the neutral position.
5. While slowly raising the overhead hoist,
tap the transmission at the brake disc
shaft until the housings start to separate.

6. Continue to raise the winch and tapping
until the housings have separated far
enough to allow the upper one to be lifted
off by hand.

The use of 2 large pry bars may also assist in separating the housings once they have split
far enough apart, but caution should be observed as not to damage the sealing surface of
the housings while using this option.
