Ethanol- Blended F uels
E thanol is an oxygenated hydroca rbon co mpound
that has a high oct ane rating and therefore is useful in
incr easing the oct ane level of unleaded gasoline. The
fuel-system co mponents of these engines have been
tested to perform with the maximum level of ethanol-
blended gasoline ( 1 0 % ethanol) cu rrently allowed for
marine use by the E P A in the United S tates.
S peci al preca utions should be co nsidered with the use
of fuel co ntaining ethanol. F uels with ethanol ca n attack
some fuel-system co mponents, such as tanks and lines,
if they are not made from acce
ptable ethanol-co mpatible
materials. This ca n lead to operational problems or safety
issues such as clogged filters, leaks or engine damage.
The use of improper gasoline or additives ca n damage
your fuel system and is co nsidered misuse of the system.

T he comp onents in this b oat’ s fuel system are
designed to work with automotive gasoline
containing up to 10% ethanol, b y volume. U sing
automotive gasoline with higher concentrations
of ethanol will damage b oat fuel system
comp onents and might cause fuel leaks.
