Shift and T hrottle Control
B oat direct ion, boat speed, and cl ose-q uarter
maneuvering are co ntrolled by the co ntrols. The optional
dual-lever D TS co ntrol incl udes gear select ion, engine
speed, and engine trim angle funct ions for the engines.
Additional detailed information about your dual-lever
D TS co ntrol is co vered in the engine operator’ s manual.
Shadow Mode T echnology
With triple V erado engines, the D TS ® system
inco rporates S hadow M ode Tech nology which enables
the ce nter engine to “ shadow” or follow the outboard
engines when the outboard engines are in the same
gear. When the outboard engines are in opposite gears,
as they would be for docki
ng maneuverability, the ce nter
engine automatica lly defaults to neutral. This gives the
operator greater co ntrol when docki
ng.
Shifting
•
E ach shift lever co ntrols gear select ion for one
engine. The shift lever must be in NE UTRAL
before starting engine. The engine will not start if
the shift lever is in F ORWARD or RE V E RS E .
•
The engine must be running before you shift into
F ORWARD or RE V E RS E .
•
F rom NE UTRAL , move the shift lever forward to
select F ORWARD gear for each engine.
•
F rom NE UTRAL , move the shift lever backw ard
to select RE V E RS E gear for each engine.
•
Never shift direct ly from F ORWARD to RE V E RS E
without pausing in NE UTRAL .
•
Never shift direct ly from RE V E RS E to F ORWARD
without pausing in NE UTRAL .
Shifting the engines from F O RWARD to REV ERSE
at any b oat sp eed ab ove idle can cause catastrop hic
engine damage. T his engine damage can include
gearcase failure or water ingestion.
