configuration into the system. The configured
Profiling Range
is displayed at all times. Any field
name shown in blue text can be clicked to additional information about the field.
In many situations, you will make very few modifications to the values in
User Setup
from one
application to another. However, it is important to understand what each parameter is doing and
how it affects both the results and the quality of the measurement. All the parameters in
User
Setup
will be described in the following sections.
When you have entered your desired settings, click
OK
to confirm your changes. If you click
Cancel
, you will exit the dialog box without updating your settings.
Note that during post-processing, a few of the
User Setup
parameters can be altered to modify
any incorrect values that may have been entered during the original setup procedure. For exam-
ple, you entered a value of 5° degrees for
Magnetic Declination
during data collection when the
actual value for the site should have been 12°. During post-processing, you can correct the
Mag-
netic Declination
value to 12°. The displayed data will be corrected for any adjustments, but the
original data file will not be modified during post-processing. The following parameters can be
modified during post-processing.
•
Mounting/Transducer Depth
•
Magnetic Declination
•
Note that values for temperature and salinity may be corrected in the
Sound Speed Correc-
tion
dialog box (
Processing|Sound Speed Correction
).
6.6.2. File Naming System and Recording Filename
When you click the
Record
button (or press
F7
) during data collection, a data file is created
that will contain the recorded raw data. As data are collected, it is written to this file (which
will grow in size). The file’s naming format is set via the
File Name Prefix
and
Use Automatic File
Names
fields in the
User Setup
;
ADP Configuration|User Setup
).
The
File Name Prefix
is the prefix for all recorded data files. The maximum number of characters
that you can use is five. Examples of acceptable names:
RIVER
,
RVR-N
,
RVR_S
,
RVR
,
SITE1
. Ex-
amples of unacceptable names:
MISSISSIPPI
,
N RVR
(no spaces allowed).
The
Use Automatic File Names
can be either enabled or disabled. In both cases, the file name will
be generated automatically.
•
Enabled
– The name of the file will contain the date and time of the transect.
- Format:
PrefixYearMonthDayHourMinute.ADP
- Example: A file with the prefix
RIVER
recorded on 17 March 2002 at 3:42 p.m. would
have the name
RIVER0203171542.ADP
.
- One of the primary advantages of this convention is that when you view your files in
Windows Explorer by file name, the files will automatically be listed chronologically.
•
Disabled
– The name of the file will contain a sequential number
- Format:
Prefix
NNN
.ADP
, where
NNN
represents a number beginning with 001 that is in-
cremented by 1 with each new recorded transect.
- Example: The fifth file recorded having a prefix of
STREAM
would have the file name
STREAM005.ADP
.
- The advantage of this convention is that files created will be transferable to systems that
can only accept filenames with eight characters (i.e., DOS’s 8.3 file naming system).
