The following paragraphs describe the basic procedures used to calculate the edge discharges for
a section using
RiverSurveyor during data collection.
Start data collection. Click
Record
to start data recording. The basic
Start Edge
dialog box
(
Figure 5-3
) is displayed. The
End Edge
dialog box is displayed when
Record
is later clicked to
stop recording data. The
Advanced
version of either dialog box is displayed by clicking
Ad-
vanced
(
Figure 5-4
). Although the information in the both the basic/advanced versions of either
dialog box can be entered during data collection or in post-processing, it is good practice to enter
information as you collect it. All information can be revised during post-processing, however,
the initial (recorded) values for the start edge and edge distances will be noted for reference.
After values are entered for the start and end sections, they will be used in the transects unless
manually changed by the operator. Additionally,
RiverSurveyor will keep track of the correct
left/right bank orientation as long as discharge measurements are made in sequence. Changing
the sequence (e.g., always starting on the right bank, starting/stopping a measurement quickly,
etc.) will require you to manually enter the correct bank orientation each time.
