Load Profiles
section of this dialog box lets you load the entire data set or a specific
portion of the data. This feature can be useful in situations where you may want to re-
move part of the measurement or focus on an exact portion of the data set (this is com-
monly called
sub-sectioning
). The profile

fields will reflect any changes you make to the selected profile range. Choose one of
the following options to load the data:
•
To load the entire data set – Make sure
All Profiles
is selected, and then click
OK
.
•
To load a portion of the data set – Click

Note
: The

5. The data file will now load and portions of the screen will update to show file informa-
tion. By default, the program will “fast forward” to the end of the data set. This will al-
low you to quickly view a large portion (if not all) of the entire data set. For discharge
measurements, the total discharge for the transect will be shown as
Total Q
in the

Note
: To allow for faster display processing, only the last 500 profiles are
. Example: If 503 profiles have been collected,
only profiles 4 through 503 are displayed. However, none of the data is lost;
all profiles (503 in this case) are recorded to disk and are available for proc-
essing/playback.
6. You are now ready to begin analyzing the data.
7.7.3. Viewing and Analyzing the Data Set
When you are analyzing or post-processing a collected data set, you do
not
need to be concerned
about modifying your data. This is because
RiverSurveyor
never
alters the original data set that
was recorded. As such, feel free to manipulate any of the program settings during post-
processing.
The best way to learn how all the different post-processing features work is to just play with all
the different menu items. We have provided you with a demonstration file. By default, the file is
located in the same folder as the
RiverSurveyor
program (
C:\Program Files\SonTek\River-
Surveyor
). The file is named
RS-DemoData.adp
, and the loaded file is shown in
Rather than going into detail about what features are available during data analysis and post-
processing, it would be easier for you to step through the various menus and toolbar icons to see
what each item does. For details about individual features, refer to the descriptions listed in the
following sections:
