3.6.4. How do I set up the ATMDS in RiverSurveyor?
You can select the ATMDS option via the
User Setup
dialog box. The
User Setup
dialog box
will be displayed each time you connect to your ADP and run the RiverSurveyor program. It can
also be displayed by selecting
ADP Configuration|User Setup
.
In the
User Setup
dialog box (
Figure 3-17
), there are two choices in the
Transducer Depth Method
box –
Manual
(user input) and
Automatic
(from the pressure sensor).
At the start of any measurement session using the
Automatic
method for transducer depth, the
pressure sensor must first be zeroed to remove the effects of atmospheric pressure from the pres-
sure readings. Second, the transducer depth must be determined by installing the transducer “at
depth” and collecting samples of depth based on the zeroed pressure sensor readings. The fol-
lowing description outlines the procedure to zero the pressure transducer and to determine the
transducer depth automatically.
To enable the ATMDS feature:
•
For
Transducer Depth Method
, select
Automatic
. The
Transducer Depth
box will become
disabled, and the
Set
button will become active.
•
Click
Set
. The
Measure Transducer
dialog box (
Figure 3-18
) will appear. Follow the on-
screen instructions.
•
Click
Zero Pressure Transducer
and follow the on-screen instructions (
Figure 3-19
) to cali-
brate the pressure sensor. Note: The ADP must not be in water during pressure calibration.
•
Lower the transducer into its mounting position in the water.
•
Follow the instructions for
Step 2 – Measure Transducer Depth
. To avoid any measurement
bias due to drawdown effects and/or velocity-head effects, the transducer depth measure-
ments must be collected in relatively calm/still water. Sampling the transducer depth while
