3.2.4. How do I set up the profiling parameters in RiverSurveyor?
The parameters needed to collect data can be entered two ways – through the
SonUtils
program
or through the
RiverSurveyor
program. The easier method is through
RiverSurveyor
, which is
. If you would prefer to manually enter your commands directly
into the ADP, refer to the direct command interface listings provided in the
ADP Operation
Manual
.
3.2.5. What data will I get from RiverSurveyor?
As mentioned earlier in this section, ADPs measure current velocities along each of the trans-
ducer beams and transform these velocities into Cartesian (
) or Earth (
The beams are divided into discrete increments or
of a specific length. The ADP will trans-
mit the following data:
•
Water velocity (one value for each cell of each velocity component) – Velocity data can be
recorded in three different coordinate systems: beam (1/2/3), axis (XYZ), direction
(east/north/up).
•
Signal strength (one value for each cell of each transducer beam) –
measure of the magnitude of the acoustic reflection from the scatterers in the water.
•
Standard deviation (one for each cell of each velocity component) – Standard deviation data
can be recorded in three different coordinate systems: beam (1/2/3), axis (XYZ), direction
(east/north/up). Note: Standard deviation uses the same coordinate system that is selected
for water velocity.
The velocity values are of foremost interest; signal strength and standard deviation are used to
determine the effective
of the instrument and to estimate the quality of the veloc-
ity measurements.
The ADP will also transmit the following additional information.
•
Bottom-track data – Depth, speed, and direction (§
)
•
GPS data – For internal GPS systems only (§
•
Compass data – Heading, pitch, and roll (§
)
•
Pressure and temperature data – If present and enabled
•
Battery voltage
The
RiverSurveyor
program displays all data during real-time data collection and during post-
processing. SonTek’s
ViewADP
program can also be used to analyze specific data sets in more
detail during post-processing.
