5. Place the new C cell batteries into the assembly (make sure polarity is correct).
6. Replace the battery cover on the bottom of the Electronics Assembly.
7. Replace the six (6) battery cover screws in the battery cover on the bottom of the Electron-
ics Assembly.
8. Reattach the Electronics Assembly to the cross braces using the three (3) electronics assem-
bly mounting screws.
RiverCat Electronics Assembly Controls and Status Indicators
•
The RiverCat Electronics Assembly has one power switch and four status indicators.
•
The power switch is a red push-button toggle switch located to the rear of the pontoons.
This button is used to provide power to the electronics assembly.

To the right of the power switch are four status indicator LED’s. The LED’s, from left to
right, are labeled
ADP
,
Modem
,
Transmit
, and
Receive
.

ADP
– When the electronics assembly power is on, the ADP indicator should be a steady
green. If the indicator is red or not lit, please contact SonTek support for assistance in
trouble shooting the instrument.

Modem
– When the electronics assembly is powered on, the Modem indicator should be a
steady green. If the indicator is red or not lit, please contact SonTek support for assistance
in trouble shooting the instrument.

Transmit
– The Transmit indicator flashes red while the instruments modem is transmit-
ting. If the indicator is steady red, the electronics assembly modem cannot locate or com-
municate with the workstation modem. In this event, please verify that the workstation
modem is connected to the workstation and has power supplied. If the indicator is not lit,
please contact SonTek support for assistance in trouble shooting the instrument.

Receive
– The Receive indicator flashes red while the instruments modem is receiving. If
the indicator is steady red, the electronics assembly modem cannot locate or communicate
with the workstation modem. In this event, please verify that the workstation modem is
connected to the workstation and has power supplied. If the indicator is not lit, please con-
tact SonTek support for assistance in trouble shooting the instrument.
RiverCat Power and Communications Cable
When operating the RiverCat without the radio modem, connect the power and communications
cable directly to the connector labeled

. Connect the 9-pin connector labeled
SER1
to the
COM port of the computer being used to communicate with the RiverCat. Connect the power
supply connector to the coaxial power connector on the RiverCat power and communications ca-
ble. If power is not supplied to the instrument via the coaxial cable, then the instrument will use
consume battery power to operate.
The 9-pin connector labeled
SER2
is used to connect and communicate directly with the radio
modem for setup and will not be discussed in this quick start guide.
