Installation and Maintenance Manual v4/0615/10
Recognising it has no more than 30 days of operational life remaining, the module attempts to contact
the SpliceCom Heartbeat server. If successful, the Heartbeat Server authenticates the contact and
supplies the module with an additional 30 day “token”, increasing the module’s working life to 60 days.
On a successful update, the following message is output into the Admin.log of the SoftPBX
LeaseChecker::OnLicenseOk
.
The module will make no further contact attempts until its “tank” has reduced to 30 days, when it will
repeat the process. If at any time a contact attempt fails to collect a 30 day “token”, the following
message is generated in the SoftPBX Admin.log and can be emailed to the administrator:
License Keepalive failure - request failed
In this case, the Heartbeat countdown timer attempts to contact the Heartbeat Server every 8 hours until
it successfully receives a 30 day token, when it reverts to its normal cycle. If, for example, the SoftPBX has
been unable to contact the Heartbeat Server for 5 days, it will contain 25 days of operational life in its
“tank”. The 30 day token will increase this to a total of 55 days. Once this fig
ure reduces to 30 days the
countdown timer will again commence attempts to contact the Heartbeat Sever. If immediately
successful it will now have the full 60 days of operational life again.
Should the timer reach zero, the SoftPBX module will prevent any further registrations and calls, and the
following warning message is generated in the Admin.log and emailed to the administrator:
S8000 lease expired!
However the countdown timer will continue to attempt to contact the Heartbeat Server and upon
successful contact and authentication, it will continue to receive 30 day tokens until it again has more
than 30 days of operation remaining in its “tank”
wherein it will revert to its normal cycle as stated above.
The appropriate messages will be sent to the Admin log as usual and normal operation can resume.
To confirm that the SoftPBX can contact the Heartbeat Server, this can be tested using a web browser or a
command line tool on the SoftPBX by accessing https://validate.splicecom.com. It is recommended this
action is taken upon the initial installation at any new site, on any new server and after network changes.
Weekly reports are generated from the Heartbeat system and reviewed by SpliceCom management to
identify anomalies. Any authenticated SoftPBX that has failed to receive a 30 day token in the last 30 days
is flagged up for investigation. If SpliceCom deduce that there appears to be a connectivity issue for a
particular SoftPBX, the Technical Support tea
m will telephone the appropriate Reseller’s technical contact
to alert them to the possible problem. The issue will be tracked by SpliceCom and if not resolved before
the SoftPBX has only 10 days of operational life remaining, the matter will be escalated
to the Reseller’s
Principal.
