disposal of a Starrsed Instrument

Decontamination of Starrsed RS

Prepare disinfectant Virkon (QRR 010046):.

Add

2

grams of disinfectant to

200 ml

deionised water.

(1% solution)

This disinfectant is only used for the fill and clean sequence of the Pipettes and for cleaning all external parts that

are exposed to blood.

1. Perform a "Fill and Clean" sequence with the pre-prepared disinfectant
2. Remove all reagent containers and replace with containers with DI water
3. Start "Wash all pipettes"
4. Prime the diluter 5 times
5. Disconnect and remove reagent containers
6. Perform "Prime all" until all liquid is removed from all tubing

7. Remove tubing from reagent pumps

8. Release tubing from pinch valves (Diluter valve, Sample valve and Vacuum valve)
9. Check if the separator is clean

10. Clean outside of the sample needle
11. Clean outside of instrument. Wipe outer surface and stainless steel plate below the pipettes with disinfectant.
12. Disconnect waste connection
13. Disconnect power

Preparation for temporary storage:

1. Cover machine with dust protection
2. Store the reagents at ambient temperature under dry conditions

Preparation for transport:

1. Cover machine with dust protection
2. Make the Starrsed RS ready for transportation
3. Send the Starrsed RS to the new address

Final preparation for permanent disposal:

1. Remove needle assembly and dispose of as biohazardous waste
2. Remove filter from separator and dispose of as biohazardous waste
3. Discard instrument according local regulations
