User Manual 3153
Using The Instrument 3-22
Using the Soft
Trigger
The soft trigger command allows you to write a program that can trigger
the 3153 directly from within your application. To use the soft trigger
command, place the instrument in TRIG:SOUR EXT mode. Soft triggers
are ignored in INTernal, TTLT<n> and ECLT0 modes.
Use the following SCPI commands to trigger the instrument:
TRIGger
The IEEE-STD-488.2 common command *TRG has the same effect. Use
either command to trigger the Model 3153 in Trigger, Burst or Triggered
Sequence Advance modes.
Enabling the SYNC
Outputs
The 3153 has three SYNC outputs designated as SYNC1, SYNC2 and
SYNC3. The SYNC outputs generate signals that are synchronous to
the main output waveform. Output level is fixed however, some other
parameters can be programmed to make the 3153 generate these
signals at specific locations, width and with certain qualifications.
Information on how to set the various SYNC parameters is given below.
For safety reasons, SYNC outputs default to OFF. Enable or disable the
SYNC outputs using the following command:
OUTPut:SYNC {OFF | ON}
ON enables the SYNC output and generates TTL level pulses. OFF
disables the SYNC output and places a logical “0” at the output
connector.
The query:
OUTPut:SYNC?
queries the state of the SYNC output and returns "0" (OFF) or "1" (ON).
Assigning the
Source For The
SYNC Output
The SYNC output generates a synchronized signal at the beginning of
the waveform or at any position on the waveform as may be
programmed by the OUTP:SYNC:POS command. The validation source
for this command is selectable from a number of options. Use the
following command to select the source for validating the SYNC output:
OUTPut:SYNC:SOURce {BIT | LCOMplete | SSYNc | SREPetition
| SEGment }
BIT
Generates a sync signal every time the segment is output in User
mode and in Sequenced mode. The sync position along the waveform
can be programmed using the OUTPUT:SYNC:POS command. The BIT
signal is recommended for use in continuous mode.
