User Manual 3153
Using The Instrument 3-20
Using the Internal
Trigger Generator
The internal trigger generator is a free-running generator, which is
asynchronous with the main output generator. When the internal trigger
source is selected, the front panel TRIG IN signal is inactive. The
internal trigger generator is also usable in Burst mode, but has no effect
in Gated mode. To use the internal trigger generator, place the
instrument in triggered mode and select the internal trigger generator
as the trigger source. Then use the following command to program an
internal trigger period:
TRIGger:TIMer <value>
The period of the internal trigger generator can be programmed from
20
µ
s to 1000s. The default period is 100
µ
s. The internal trigger
generator is ignored when either an external, TTLTrig or ECLTrig
source is enabled.
The query:
TRIGger:TIMer?
queries the period of the internal trigger generator and returns a value
in seconds.
Selecting the Trigger
Slope
The trigger slope command toggles edge sensitivity for the selected
trigger input. The Model 3153 can be made sensitive to either positive
or negative transitions. Use the following command to select the slope
for the trigger signal:
TRIGger:SLOPe {POSitive | NEGative}
Positive going transitions trigger the Model 3153 when the POS option
is selected. Negative transitions trigger the Model 3153 when the NEG
option is selected. POS is the default slope. In Gated mode, a high level
gates the generator when the POS option is selected; a low level does
when NEG is selected.
The query:
TRIGger:SLOPe?
queries the trigger slope and returns POS or NEG.
Selecting the Trigger
Level
The trigger level command sets the threshold level at the trigger input
connector. Note that only channel 1 has this feature; trigger inputs to
other channels have fixed TTL level thresholds.
Trigger level is adjustable from -10V to +10V with up to 4 digits of
resolution. Trigger level resolution is always 10 mV. Use the following
command to set the trigger level for the trigger signal:
TRIGger:LEVel <value>
