Cycle
The reader can operate in a number of modes from a continuous reader to a triggered reader. The
Cycle
determines how the reader will operate. Setting up the read cycle type and parameters will
involve a series of decisions based on your particular application:

Select the cycle type. The choices are either the free-running
Continuous Mode
or one of the
various triggered modes:
Triggered
,
Start/Stop
, or
Custom
.

Select the
number of symbols (either 1D or 2D codes, depending on your application)
to
be decoded in a single cycle. The reader can satisfy this condition by reading one or more
symbols in a single image frame or across multiple image frames. The reader will communicate
pass
if it finds all symbols, and
fail
if it does not. Note that the reader will not read and count a
symbol if it is the same code type and contains the same data as a previous code.

Choose whether or not to allow the reader to
read duplicate codes
and to include them as
symbols found and as part of the output data.

Decide how the cycle will start by choosing the trigger type to be used. If free-running, the reader
will start automatically. If triggered, you must select
Serial Trigger
and choose a serial character
for the trigger, or if through I/O, you must choose either the
External Level
or
External Edge
Trigger Mode
.

to set the

Designate how the read cycle should end:

The following four settings are common settings for all read cycle modes:
Look for # Codes –
This is the number of codes that the reader should find in each decode cycle. If the
reader finds all codes, the decode cycle will pass. If it does not find all codes, the cycle will fail and only
the codes it finds will be output. The remaining codes will be listed as No Read. This value can be set
from

to

, but

is typically a practical limit in an average complex scene. This is because the
algorithm is limited by the overall number of edge candidates that it can process. In this case it is
recommended that you use
Matrix Mode
or multiple ROIs to surpass this practical limit.
Timeout After
– This is the amount of time the reader is allowed to spend for the entire read cycle,
acquiring and processing images until all codes are read. You should set this value long enough to be
able to decode in all circumstances, but short enough to prevent the reader from taking longer than the
allowed cycle time of the production line. This value can be set from
10 milliseconds
to
65 seconds
(655,350 ms)
.
Allow Duplicates
– The check box tells the reader what to do if it finds codes with the same content.
By default, the reader will ignore duplicate codes. It will not count them as one of the codes it is set to
find, and it will not include them in the output string data. If Allow Duplicates is checked, duplicate codes
will be counted and included as part of the output string.
Configuration Database
– Enable or disable the Configuration Database as part of the read cycle.
The Configuration Database is described in detail in
Setup > Configuration Database
.
