Chapter 9 Security
Understand the security alerts of your browser
Understand the security alerts of your browser
Introduction
When you connect to the web server that uses HTTPs, the certificate of the web
server is sent to your browser. The browser verifies the validity of the certificate.
The browser approves the validity of the certificate when the certificate meets the
following requirements.
■
The certificate authority (CA) is on the list of trusted CAs as installed on your
computer, if the certificate is issued by a third-party CA.
■
The certificate is on the list of trusted certificates as installed on your computer,
if the certificate is self-signed.
■
The validity period of the certificate has not been expired.
■
The Common name of the certificate matches the URL of the web server.
If one or more requirements are not met, the browser displays a security alert and
asks you if the certificate must be trusted. You can trust the certificate for the current
session. Therefore, you can continue to log on. However, the next time you log on,
the security alert is displayed again.
To get information about the currently used certificate double-click the golden
padlock in your browser.

You can take actions so that the above named requirements are met and security
alerts are prevented.
