Additional Requirements for a Wireless Connection
To install your BayStack 660 Access Point , you must have:
• A supported LAN protocol stack (IPX/SPX or TCP/IP). Refer to Using the
BayStack 650/660 PC Card for information on the drivers that are supplied.
• For a 10BASE-T Ethernet connection, a modular data cable with a dual
twisted pair cable terminated with a male RJ-45 modular jack.
• For a 10BASE2 Ethernet connection, an RG-58 A/U, 50-ohm coaxial cable
with BNC connector(s).
Access Point Installation
Installing a BayStack 660 Access Point includes placing the unit at the appropriate
location in the building and connecting the cables. In a multiple access point
environment, each device should be at least 15 feet apart.
Use the site survey utility for assistance with the design of a BayStack 600 Series
Wireless LAN. The site survey utility is described in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 of
Using the BayStack 650/660 Wireless LAN PC Card. This utility helps determine
how many access points you may need for your facility and the optimum
placement scheme provides complete coverage.
Network and Power Connections
A network cable drop (10BASE-T or 10BASE2) and an AC power outlet must be
provided at the location where the
BayStack 660 Access Point is to be installed.
The best type of installation must be determined at the site and can be either wall
mount or desk mount. However, a raised location such as mounting the device on
a wall close to the ceiling provides optimum access for the mobile units. It is
possible to mount the device above a suspended ceiling, but it will be impossible
to view the LEDs.
Note: Contact Nortel Networks technical support before attempting to connect
the access point using a 10BASE2 (BNC) Ethernet connector.
