SSID/ESSID
Service Set Identifier. An identification string of 1 to 32 characters defining a logical
network. If the users are operating with a BayStack 660 Access Point, the logical network
is defined by an Extended SSID (ESSID).
TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol. A set of networking protocols designed
to link computers from multiple vendors. TCP/IP was originally developed by the
Advanced Research Project Agency (ARPA) became a part of the UNIX operating
system and has been adopted as a networking standard in many government, academic,
and technical computing environments.
transmission range
The maximum distance from a BayStack 660 Access Point or BayStack PC card at which
communication with another access point or PC card can still be expected to occur. This
distance can be made greater or lesser by environmental factors such as building
structure or the presence of electrical interference.
WEP
Wired Equivalent Privacy. WEP is an encryption tool used to improve security of your
wireless LAN. WEP involves encryption between the BayStack PC card and the
BayStack Access Point. This encryption is transparent to network data transfers. WEP
employs a standard algorithm (RSA-RC4 per the IEEE 802.11 standard). The key length
is 40 bits and is exportable.
Wired LAN
A local area network in which components (workstations, servers, printers, bridges,
routers, and so forth) are connected by cabling. The BayStack 660 connects to your
Ethernet 802.3 wired LAN.
