Ad Hoc Network
An ad hoc network is a wireless, standalone network set up between two or more
workstations without an access point. Set up an ad hoc network for a specific but
temporary task. Dissolve the network once the task is complete. See “
Chapter 1,
“Introduction
,” of Using the BayStack 660 PC Card for additional information
about ad hoc networks, then refer to Chapter 2, “Installation” of the same
document, for information about configuring an ad hoc network.
Infrastructure Network
In an infrastructure network, the wired portion of the network provides access to
a wired network with either peer-to-peer or server-based communications using
both a BayStack 660 Access Point and a BayStack 660 PC Card.
This could be a peer-to-peer network running Windows (Windows 95, Windows
98, or Windows NT) or a server-based network such as NetWare. The wireless
workstation with the PC card installed must have network drivers installed to
communicate to a LAN, and it must be able to communicate to an access point
(
