Installing the BayStack 660 Access Point
Place the BayStack 660 Access Point in the center of the first BSA shown on the
floor plan in a location for permanent installation. Nortel Network recommends
positioning the access point in an elevated location to achieve better, line-of-site
radio coverage between the mobile unit and the access point. Place the access
point on top of a six foot ladder to approximate recommended wall or ceiling
mounting.
To install your BayStack 660 Access Point, plug the power supply cord into the
access point and then into a wall outlet. (Go to
Chapter 3, “Installing the Access
Point
” for additional information). When power is applied, refer to
Table 2-1
for
the LED activity. Go to
Chapter 7, “Diagnostics and Troubleshooting
” if you have
problems installing the access point.
The green LED on the PC card inserted in your access point lights when there is a
good connection between a mobile unit and the access point. The amber LED
blinks when there is transmit or receive activity on the wireless segment of the
network.
Note:
You do not need to connect the access point to a wireless LAN to perform a
survey. However, to communicate between a mobile unit and an access point,
network drivers must be loaded. Both the PC card and the access point should be set
at the same SSID (default: SSID). Refer to Using the BayStack 650/660 Wireless
LAN PC Card for instructions on how to load your network driver.
