Wireless Technology Overview
Wireless technology offers users freedom of movement and provides
administrators greater flexibility in LAN configurations. The BayStack 660
Access Point uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS or DS) radio
frequency (RF) signal modulation. This technology enables a laptop computer
with a PC card inserted and operating in DS modulation (for example, a BayStack
660 PC Card) to connect to a BayStack 660 Access Point.
Channelized Services Overview
DS technology reduces susceptibility to interference from other radio transmitters
and noise sources in the same 2.4 GHz range since the transmission is broadcast
on multiple 1 MHz channels simultaneously. The result is better performance,
higher throughput, better security, and a more efficient scalability of the product.
Load balance your network traffic by distributing the communication traffic
evenly over several access points. Arrange the BayStack 660 Access Points to
provide load balancing and set the channels used by the access points so that they
are separated by at least five channels.
Note:
The BayStack 660 Access Point and the BayStack 660 PC Card (known as
the BayStack 660 Wireless LAN products) both operate using a DS modulation
technique. Products with different modulation approaches, such as the BayStack
650 Wireless LAN products, are not interoperable and cannot be used together.
