Planning and Installing a Wireless LAN

BayStack 660 Access Points 4, 5, and 6 cover the bottom section of the floor plan.
The storage vault was not included in the desired ESA (note: the metal walls and
steel doors could affect radio transmission). Since complete coverage is required
in an adjacent conference room that would probably be beyond the reach of
BayStack 660 Access Point 5, we include access point 4.
Refine Your Calculations
Do the following to verify and refine the preliminary calculations made in the
preceding section:
•
Install and configure the BayStack 660 PC Card on your mobile unit (a laptop
computer with a PCMCIA slot).
•
Install the BayStack 660 Wireless LAN utilities software on your mobile unit.
•
Install a BayStack 660 Access Point and position it at each location to be
gauged in the survey (move the same access point from one location to next.)
•
Run the site survey utility for each access point location planned for an ESA.
•
Record and analyze the site survey data and modify the number and locations
of BayStack access points accordingly.
•
Install the network.
Installing the BayStack 660 PC Card
Install the BayStack 660 PC Card in your mobile unit. Refer to the installation
section in Chapter 2, of Using the BayStack 650/660 Wireless LAN PC Card.
Successful installation of the BayStack 660 PC Card converts your mobile unit
into a BayStack 660 Wireless LAN mobile unit.
