Interpreting the Site Survey
As long as the laptop computer and the access point share the same SSID (default:
default SSID), you can view the link quality on the bar gauge on the right side of
the Site Survey window as you move around the BSA of the access point. A
numeric value, description, and color are also shown.
Completing the Installation
To complete the installation of your BayStack 600 Series Wireless LAN:
• Install the BayStack 660 Access Points that are needed
You have now determined the number of access points required and their
optimal placement throughout the ESA. If you have not already done so, you
will need to purchase the appropriate number of access points. You will need
to provide an AC power source and Ethernet 10BASE-T or 10BASE2 network
connections at the locations you verified during your site survey.
• Mount the access points high on a wall, near the ceiling for best radio
coverage.
• Install BayStack 660 PC Cards in each PC
Each user in your BayStack 600 Series Wireless LAN environment requires a
BayStack 660 PC Card properly installed in a portable PC. Refer to Using the
BayStack 650/660 Wireless LAN PC Card for installation instructions.
• Verify the BayStack PC card and BayStack access point installations.
After verifying the installations, use the site survey utility to verify the coverage
area and roaming functionality between access points. Repeat the steps in
“Creating a Site Survey” on page 2-12 . The site survey utility window indicates
when the mobile unit is handed off from one BayStack access point to the next.
Warning: While mounting the access point, make sure that the device does not
reside directly above someone and that the cables are tied down and dressed neatly
