Item Description
RTS Threshold As on wired networks, packets sent by wireless LANs are susceptible to
collisions. An RTS threshold of 2305 (default) effectively disables the
RTS mechanism, while maintaining optimum performance. Decreasing
this value reduces the probability of collisions, but may effect
performance.
Nortel Networks recommends not changing the RTS threshold value on
the access point, unless many overlapping access points service the
coverage area. Enter a value between 0 and 2305 bytes if required.
Nortel Networks suggests a value of 128.
Fragmentation
Threshold Enter a number for the fragmentation threshold. This option helps
prevent radio frequency interference from other devices that operate in
the 2.4 GHz band. The default value of 2305 effectively “fragments” a
sent data packet, while maintaining optimum performance in an
environment that is free of interference. Decreasing this value reduces
the probability of packet errors due to interference from other devices,
but may effect performance. Enter a value between 0 and 2305 bytes if
required. Nortel Networks suggests a value of 550.
Beacon Interval This option sets the time interval (in TUs) between the beacons (TIMs)
that are sent by an access point. TIMs are used to indicate if an access
point has packets queued for delivery to a specific mobile unit. Enter a
value between 8 and 32767 TUs. Default is 128 TUs.
DTIM Period This option is used to set the number of beacons (TIMs) transmitted
between DTIMs. A DTIM is a TIM with an additional indication of
queued broadcasts (if there are any).
Using this option in conjunction with the Beacon Interval establishes a
reference point that the BayStack PC card (installed in a laptop
computer) can use to “wake-up” and check for queued data and
broadcasts sent by the access point. This controls the power-saving
level and outbound latency either globally at the access point (via the
Beacon Interval and DTIM Period settings) or individually on each
workstation (via the Listen Interval setting). Enter a value between 1and
255 beacons. Default is 5.
Ethernet
Configuration Displays a list of the types of Ethernet connections available. Select
either 10Base-2/ 10Base-T or 10Base-T Only
Failover Control There are three parameters in this category:
• Check to Enable Ethernet Link Detect (not checked by default).
This parameter can only be selected if “10Base-T Only” is
selected in the Ethernet Configuration.
• Check to Enable infrastructure Ping (not checked by default).
• Type the target IP address.
