Starting up the device - RS 485 Modbus interface
The configuration of an RS 485 Modbus interface involves the following steps on the receiver control panel
and the RS 485 Modbus interface module of the control-specific configuration software.
General prerequisites:
• The measuring light curtain has been mounted (see chapter 6) and connected (see chapter 7) cor
-
rectly.
• The basic configuration has been performed (see chapter 8).
14.1 Defining the RS 485 Modbus basic configuration on the receiver control panel
The parameters for the RS 485 Modbus interface are configured with the slave address, bit rate, parity and
silent interval configurations.
The structure of these configurations in the receiver control panel menu is as follows:
Select Main Settings > Modbus > Slave Address > Enter value.
Select Main Settings > Modbus > Bit rate > Enter value.
Select Main Settings > Modbus > Parity > Enter value.
Select Main Settings > Modbus > Silent Interval > Enter value.
The bit rate, the parity, the silent interval and the slave address are configured.
Other possible configuration steps are performed via the
Sensor Studio
configuration software (see
chapter 16)
Process mode is configured via the RS 485 Modbus interface module of the control-specific software.
14.2 Defining configurations via the RS 485 Modbus interface module of the PLC software
In addition to the basic configurations (see chapter 8), the functionality of the CML 700i is configured
according to the measurement application via the PLC with RS 485 Modbus telegrams.
NOTICE
16-bit and 32-bit values in “little endian” format!
Contrary to the Modbus specification, 16-bit and 32-bit values are handled in “Little Endian” format
(low byte first). Example:
Value 25 as 16-bit value: 0x19 0x00
Value 25 as 32-bit value: 0x19 0x00 0x00 0x00
