surfaces of the anvil and cartridge jaw to clean any unused staples from the instrument. Do not use
the instrument until it has been visually inspected to confirm there are no staples on the anvil and
cartridge jaw.
•
If the firing mechanism becomes inoperative,
do not
refire the instrument. (Remove and discard
the instrument.)
•
If the clamping mechanism becomes inoperative and the jaws do not clamp on tissue, do not fire
the instrument. (Remove and discard the instrument and reload.)
•
Once the knife blade has been returned to its start position either manually or automatically,
the cartridge is spent and must be discarded. If firing is attempted with a spent cartridge, the
instrument will lock out. If resistance is felt, lockout has occurred. If lockout occurs, stop, remove
the instrument, and pull the manual release lever; then press the anvil release button while slowly
releasing the closing trigger to open the instrument jaws and replace the cartridge. Firing through the
lockout mechanism will break the instrument.
•
Attempting to force the trigger to complete the firing stroke with too much tissue between the
jaws, or with dense/thick tissue between the jaws, may result in instrument failure.
•
When using a tissue or staple line buttressing material, the instructions of the manufacturer of the
buttress material should be followed. The use of staple line buttressing materials with the instrument
may require an increased force to close, an increased force to fire and may reduce the number of
times the device may be fired.
•
Crossing of staple lines may shorten the life of the instrument.
•
Selection of the appropriate staple cartridge should be based upon the combined thicknesses of both
the tissue and the staple line buttressing materials.
•
Loading the incorrect reload for the instrument size or model may result in transecting the tissue
without sealing (e.g. loading a 60 mm reload into a 45 mm instrument).
•
When selecting the cartridge, careful consideration should be given to existing pathologic conditions
as well as any pre-surgical treatment, such as radiotherapy, that the patient may have undergone.
certain conditions or preoperative treatments may cause changes in tissue thickness that would
exceed the indicated range of tissue thickness for the standard choice of cartridge.
•
If the jaws do not automatically open after the anvil release button is pressed, first ensure that the
knife is in the retracted position by verifying that the 3-stroke indicator or knife blade indicator is in
the starting position. If the 3-stroke indicator or knife blade indicator is not in the starting position,
pull the manual firing release lever until the 3-stroke indicator or knife blade indicator returns to the
starting position. If the jaws do not open at this point, depress the anvil release button while gently
pulling the closing trigger (1) upward (away from handle) until both firing and closing triggers return
to their original positions.
•
Instruments or devices which come into contact with bodily fluids may require special disposal
handling to prevent biological contamination.
•
Dispose of all opened instruments and reloads whether used or unused.
•
This device is packaged and sterilized for single use only. Do not reuse, reprocess or resterilize.
Reuse, reprocessing, or resterilization may compromise the structural integrity of the device and/or
lead to device failure that in turn may result in patient injury, illness or death. Also, reprocessing or
resterilization of single use devices may create a risk of contamination and/or cause patient infection
or cross-infection, including, but not limited to, the transmission of infectious disease(s) from one
patient to another. Contamination of the device may lead to injury, illness, or death of the patient.
