Establishing a backup system for the chiller
Site preparation also includes providing protection against chiller failure
by setting up a backup system of mill water (or other water source
external to the scanner) in an external open loop to the cable end support.
The backup system should drain and not return to the chiller reservoir or
mill water source. Do not allow the glycol-water coolant to mix with other
water systems. Once switched to the backup coolant, collect the initially-
drained water-glycol mixture contained in the scanner hoses at
switchover. This mixture can be returned to the chiller reservoir.
The backup source should be teed to the Precision Platform at both the
return and the supply hoses at the cable end support. It is essential to
ensure that fluid from the chiller and fluid from the external open loop
never mix.
2.12.6.
Chillers and chiller requirements
2.12.6.1.
Life and warranty
The chiller should be minimally capable of continuous operation over a
five-year life span and should be warranteed for at least one year.
2.12.6.2.
Size and capacity
The size and capacity required of a chiller depend on the scanning
environment, the sensors installed, and the chiller environment. Typical
requirements for scanners are:
•
Reel scanners (ambient
≤
140°F (60°C), normal sensor package):
•
600 watts (2000 BTU/hr) minimum
•
Compressor pump of approximately .19kw (0.25 hp)
•
Size press and hot environment scanners (ambient >140
°
F
(60°C)):
•
1500 watts (5115 BTU/hr) minimum
•
Compressor pump of approximately 0.50 hp
