Building mounting pedestals
Threading rope runs, belts or conveyors often create challenges for
locating scanners. Often rope runs must be rerouted to allow space for
scanners. Conveyors provide more complexity. They need interlocks to
prevent the scanner from scanning while the conveyor is active, and to
prevent the conveyor from inserting through the scanner before the heads
are in the offsheet position. The scanner provides for both these interlocks
to be wired locally into the scanner. Details for field wiring are in Section
2.6.
2.4. Building mounting pedestals
The sheet passline at the center of the air gap between the heads is 838mm
(33in) from the bottom of the scanner mounting foot. Allow 13mm (1/2in)
for shimming when determining pedestal height. Two mounting pedestals
must be built for the scanner end supports in order to raise the scanner to
the height required by the sheet passline.
The passline height and head angle depend on the height and angle of the
adjacent rolls. These passline measurements can be determined by
stretching a length of twine tightly over the rolls. The pedestals must place
the middle of the air gap between the heads at the height and angle of the
twine.
The height of the pedestals can be calculated by subtracting 838mm (33 in)
for the scanner height and another 13mm (1/2 in) for shims between the
pedestal and scanner from the passline height.

Mount the pedestals directly to the machine floor and never to the
machine frame. This mounting avoids potential vibration concerns.
2.5. Obtaining lifting equipment
The Precision Platform is delivered on dollies, enabling it to be rolled to
the installation location. However, lifting equipment will also be required
to lift and position the scanner onto the mounting pedestals.
During site preparation, it is important to work with experienced
millwrights to identify the appropriate equipment for safely lifting the
