2.6. Installing cables
Site preparation includes installing power, PrecisionNet (Ethernet), and
process I/O cables. Select conduits and trays for cables in accordance with
the Honeywell guidelines for cable-shielding, as detailed in Subsections
2.6.1 and 2.6.2. Installation preparations must also conform to all local
regulations.
All cables should be continuous and without splices. All cables should be
identified or labeled at both ends. Additional cable should be pulled at
each end to allow routing within the enclosure to the designated
termination point. Allow 2m (6 ft) of extra cable at the scanner and 3m (10
ft) of extra cable at the server enclosure.
The PrecisionNet (Ethernet) cables that will connect the Precision
Platform's Precision Measurement Processor and the Da Vinci Application
Server must be fabricated. The maximum length of the PrecisionNet cable
between the PMP and the Application Server is dependent On the type of
Ethernet cable used but may be as small as 90m (300 ft) without repeaters
if 10BaseT twisted pair cable is chosen. Repeaters or another cable type
must be used for longer distances. A chart of Ethernet media and
maximum cable lengths is provided on the scanner installation drawings
as well as in Section 2.9.
2.6.1. Installing conduits
The following conduit requirements either meet or exceed the
specifications contained in the National Electrical Code (NEC) for
ensuring a protective passageway for system cables. All installation work
must conform to local regulations.
•
Use rigid or flexible steel conduit for all signal runs. Use a
galvanized steel conduit where cable raceways are exposed to
the weather or are in damp locations, or where the conduit is
embedded in concrete. The steel conduit forms an
electromagnetic shield around the signal cables. Other materials
degrade the shielding effect.
